rooted in a university spin-off

i-Transport Lab makes full use of its position as a university spin-off. Working with a group of universities centred on the Institute of Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo, we carry out research and build products so that academic results can be spun off into practical use.

Bringing research results to society

Our mission is to bring research results to society, so we develop technology that is academically rigorous and practically useful at the same time.
Through national programmes including the PLATEAU project of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, research commissioned by NICT and the SCOPE programme of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications,
we are helping to make the urban digital twin real.

Traffic Scope
Traffic data processing Visualisation

Traffic Scope

Our own technology for visualising urban congestion on a one to two kilometre mesh, read like a weather map. Tokyo Traffic Scope, built on Fujitsu taxi probe data, is in operation.

Nowcast Simulation
Real-time estimation Data assimilation

Nowcast Simulation

Technology that estimates and reproduces the state of an entire network right now from partial sensor data, using a data assimilation approach that continuously corrects time-of-day OD tables and bottleneck capacities. A CO2 monitoring field trial was carried out in Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture, under the SCOPE programme of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.

Nationwide Traffic Simulation
Large-scale analysis National infrastructure

Nationwide Traffic Simulation

Research and development of a large-scale traffic simulation platform covering the road network of the whole of Japan. It supports policy work at national scale, including National Resilience infrastructure policy, the "2024 problem" in logistics (Japan's cap on truck drivers' overtime) and preparation for a Nankai Trough megaquake.

Beyond 5G Commissioned by NICT

Spatiotemporal resource technologies

Research commissioned by NICT on dynamically optimising road and transport infrastructure from the perspective of time and space. The goal is a next-generation traffic control platform working together with Beyond 5G communications.

Shonan Future Verse project
Smart city Commissioned by NICT Digital twin

The Shonan Future Verse project

A smart city field trial in the Shonan area of Kanagawa Prefecture, run with NTT East, Keio University, Kyoto University, the University of Tokyo and Zenrin DataCom among others. A people-flow optimisation trial was held in November 2025 at Nagai Uminote Park Soleil Hill in Yokosuka, Kanagawa.
