Proving how traffic flows, in numbers.

Traffic flow simulation for road networks from a few kilometres to several hundred kilometres across. Based on research from the Institute of Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo and refined over more than 25 years. Its mesoscopic model, built on the flow-density (Q-K) relationship, supports dynamic route choice, signal control and environmental assessment.

Street network traffic flow simulation

Bringing science to a single second at an intersection.

Traffic flow simulation for street networks from a single intersection up to a few kilometres square. Its block density method, published through the simulation clearing house of the Japan Society of Traffic Engineers (JSTE), allows signal control, traffic regulation and the effect of ITS deployment to be evaluated with high accuracy.

MicroAVENUE

Reproducing the behaviour of every single vehicle.

Vehicle-by-vehicle simulation of local traffic at intersections, on residential streets and around roadworks. Changes to signal phasing, lane design and merge geometry can be checked intuitively in 3D. Mixed traffic including automated vehicles and new forms of mobility is also supported.

Seeing what could happen to a crowd, before it does.

A crowd simulation system that reproduces the movement and evacuation behaviour of large numbers of people using individual agent models. In January 2026 the Tokyo Fire Department certified Smart Crowd under its evaluation scheme for fire evacuation simulation. Results from a certified simulator may be submitted with an application for an exemption from the seating standards of the Fire Prevention Ordinance, and may be used as formal evidence in fire safety plans and building confirmation applications.

People-flow sensing and data collection

Measuring the flow of people directly, on site.

Bluetooth sensors placed indoors or across an outdoor area collect walking routes, dwell times and pedestrian counts in real time. The data feeds straight into Smart Crowd and our people-flow simulation, giving accurate analysis and congestion forecasting. Measured reality and simulation are combined so that each improves the other.
